Nepal Committee Update

Training and Education Program

We are delighted to announce that Mr. Nawang Tamang, a young Nepali man, is the second recipient of the Rotary Club of Bendigo Nepal Committe 'Training and Education Program Scholarship’ for 2018-2021.

Following nomination by Namgyal Rincpoche Foundation, Nepal, on 19th Dec, 2017, the Rotary Club of Bendigo’s Board ratified the Nepal Committee proposal that Mr. Nawang Tamang’s application for a 4 year Training and Education Program Scholarship, Bachelor Social Work, be accepted. Following ratification a four-year Contract containing a key obligation to obtain employment in Nepal for 2 years post-graduation was signed. It is pleasing to know that 70% of BSW graduates are employed in Nepal within a year of graduation.

Nawang wishes to stay in Nepal after graduation and is committed to improving physical and mental health outcomes for young people where low literacy, unemployment and poverty result in depression, substance abuse and suicide for many young people.

The Committee aims to return to Nepal in the future to meet Nawang and his family and visit the Nepal School of Social Work. During the scholarship period Nawang will report regularly to the club and it is hoped that one day Nawang may be able to visit our Rotary Club, maybe a future Rotarian?
