This week it was great to hear about the source of the basketballs and shirts
that have be making the long journey to remote parts of Australia. David
Huxtable General Manager of Basketball Victoria told us how they have surplus
basketballs and kits each year and wanted a way to distribute them to remote
communities outside Victoria and New South Wales---------step in the Rotary Club of Bendigo, People with a Purpose and with the vocational skills of our
members and a lot of goodwill from transport businesses the goal (or Basket)
was achieved! spot the pun! It was interesting to hear how many people play
Basketball and how many Associations there are in Regional Victoria alone.
There is a lot of communication between sporting groups to ensure there are
no clashes of dates, so youngsters can play what they want to and not have to
choose. It was interesting to hear our new Bendigo stadium will be able to host
international events and has a greater capacity than the new Ballarat Stadium!
The Sheep & Wool Show was a great fundraiser for us. Very easy volunteering,
strolling around the show, talking to people, watching shearing competitions,
sheepdog trials, lots of wool craft, fashion shows and of course lots of very
pampered sheep!! Well done Tom Dobeli for all his hard work leading up to
and during the show. All his hard work made it easy for us volunteers. The Club
received $6400 and the volunteers had morning tea and a tasty lamb hot pot
for lunch. There will be a rush to volunteer next year!!!
Next week 31 st July is an evening meeting . We will be learning about Multiple
Sclerosis and a the MS24hrMegaSwim which we will be running in March. It is

We welcomed Pol Garcon, our new exchange student from Barcelona Spain.
Now over his jet lag. We all wish him well for his year with us.
See everyone at the Film Night and maybe after at the Coffee Club.
