What a great meeting we had this week! We had lots of partners who came to celebrate with us John Cartwright’s 50th Anniversary of his induction into the Rotary Family. Members of the Rotary Club of Bendigo are honoured that John is a member of this club, and we were thrilled to award John a PHF Sapphire Pin for his continuous loyal service to the community of Bendigo. John cut the cake which was shared by all members and guests. Bruce Rassin Rotary International President also sent John a Certificate congratulating him on 50yrs. This was presented to John by our District Governor Bronwyn Stephens who was visiting our Club with her husband Mark. Bronwyn gave us an insight into what she planned for her year in office.  Rotary House in Melbourne is one of her passions, Past DG Gordon McKern is coming to talk to us about it next week. Another passion was the End Polio Now campaign which is so near to eradicating Polio. Bronwyn left us jars of Smarties. We enjoy the Smarties and then fill up the jar with $2 coins, which will then be matched with District Grants, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation meaning $1 will be turned into $15  all of which goes to the campaign. I have to admit my jar is empty now, but Pol must take the record of nearly finishing his jar before the meeting finished! I have some more Jars of Smarties for anyone who missed out.

Thankyou to everyone who came to the  Parma for a Farmer night on Friday.  We had 44 Parmas eaten, I bet nobody could finish theirs, they were enormous! With the Raffle and donations we raised $385 , Bendigo Club matched that money making it $770 plus a $1 for each Parma. The Board decided to up our contribution to $500. So we raised nearly $1000 to go to “Buy a Bale” & Rural Aid.

We have a joint meeting with Bendigo South on September 18th, Our Spanish Night. Pol will be telling us about his Catalan Heritage and his life in Barcelona. Lindsay Jolley RC Bendigo South will explain about the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail. This is a partners night so we need numbers to Lin Kalms  by 14th September.

We are heading into our busy time of year, so watch out for volunteer requests. We don’t want anyone to miss out!! So until we greet PDG Gordon McKern next week , enjoy the weather.
