Broadly Speaking 13 February 2018
What a splendid night we had for our Annual Bowls Night on 13th February. No wind – clear and balmy. As always a wonderful social event and great fun for all who participated. Congratulations to the winners and losers with particular thanks to the ladies who catered for the supper afterwards. Thanks to the Bendigo East Bowling Club for the use of their facility.
It was at the end of the games and just before presentation of the prizes that I was delighted to announce a new project for our Club. A MARKET to be held at the Bendigo South East College Campus on 22nd April. Libby and I have been working on this and have been buoyed by the great enthusiasm shown by the Acting Principal of the College, Dale Pearce and Sue Masters, President of the College Council. It is an ideal space with plenty of room for stall holders, beautiful grassed area, shady trees and bench seats throughout. The Chair of our Special Operations Committee, Wayne Smith, is on board and everything is set to go – all we need is your support for this venture – a ‘one-off’ experiment at this stage. Libby and I are quite confident that we can all make this work. We have invited the Rotary Club of Bendigo Strathdale to join us and are waiting on their response. But, in any case, please mark Sunday, April 22nd, in your diaries. Please contact Libby or me if you are available to help in any way. Of course, there will be a Rotary Sausage Sizzle – and please spread the word to all of your contacts. Do you know any stall holders who may be interested? More information in the weeks to follow.
For anyone you may know who is caring for someone with dementia at home, Remini-Sing may be for them. The University of Melbourne is investigating the effects of therapeutic singing groups for community dwelling people living with dementia and their family caregivers. Bendigo is one of 7 choir locations which will hold this program and they are looking for people who would like to be involved. This closely relates to my project of ‘Music and Memory’ and, should you like more information, please contact me. Also see the attached Flyer.
Our Club is proud to support our member, Rotarian Julie Sloan, as she participates in the Rotary International – Geelong& District Eliminating Polio Event to be held on 15th April. Julie will be pedalling 60 km with the ‘Rotary Club of Bendigo’ on her handlebars. She is trying to raise $500. I encourage you to support her. Please contact Julie for more information on how you can contribute.
We have a huge meeting planned for Tuesday, 20th February. This will be a Partners luncheon and I invite all of our Rotary family to come along and join us as we present the proceeds of the 2017 Carols by Candlelight to the Uniting Christmas Appeal. We have also invited and will also welcome many guests on the day. It will be a very full, interesting and worthwhile meeting.
A reminder –ALL of our meetings are ‘Partner’s Meetings’. Your partner does not need an official invitation – they are always welcome to attend and we would encourage them to join us.
