Broadly Speaking 03 October 2017
NEXT WEEK IS A PARTNER'S NIGHT. We have moved the meeting from lunchtime to a
'Twilight Meeting'. Come along, with your partners, to the Bendigo Club at 6.00 for 6.30 to join with members of the RC of Bendigo Strathdale as we contribute to the Worlds Greatest Meal in support of Rotary's End Polio Now campaign. Our Guest Speaker will be
Mayor, Margaret O'Rourke. Not only will you enjoy a sumptuous 2-course meal and good company - you will be supporting a very worthy cause. I look forward to welcoming you.
Winner of Glen's quiz was Dominic Coia who was so close to the mark it made us wonder if he is psychic! Well done Dominic. But – we all scored. Thank you Glen for the chocolates all round.
Our Guest Speaker for the day was Krissie from the Otis Foundation – and she was accompanied by Mandy, who has just joined the staff there. We were also privileged to
have Margot Falconer from the Wool and Sheep Show. Krissie told us of the
success of Otis which is now a National Organisation with 5 States offering free accommodation to women who are fighting beast cancer, and their families. We were all touched by the story she told us and impressed by the growth of Otis. Margot Falconer presented her with a cheque from proceeds of the Fleece Competition – one of events which we have supported for many years thanks to the initial efforts of Kurt Walder. The Rotary Club of Bendigo is delighted to support two such worthy organisations.
A reminder that Julie Sloan needs to know if you will be attending the Foundation Dinner at the Kangaroo Flat Sports Club on 30th November. You must prebook to reserve your place – tickets will not be available on the night. Our usual lunchtime meeting has been cancelled that week to enable members to attend the Foundation Dinner.
Seisei has a few more tickets to sell for the Karen Film Night Fundraiser to be held at the Star Theatre on Thursday, 5th October. This will be a most enjoyable night when you will enjoy traditional and Australian food, followed by the film 'All Saints', a very inspiring story. Contact Seisei if you are interested in attending.
Another reminder – have you completed the Club Survey yet? Libby and Peter Reading are compiling the results for presentation to the Club – so there is still a little time for you to contribute.
Car Parking – particularly the Bendigo Cup on 1st November. Please let Greg Galloway know if you can help out. Do you have a friend who may have an hour or two to spare?
Word of the day was suggested by Jacob Pearson – solipsism – the doctrine of philosophy meaning the thing you experience is the only thing that exists. Being self-centred or selfish. Graeme Clarke was the first among a number of members who knew the meaning.
